2011 AGM

This year’s  AGM  was held at Penticton Lakeside Resort, September 8th and 9th, 2011.  September usually heralds cooler weather, but this year, our members enjoyed  a balmy September, a most welcome treat for enjoying the outdoors in this spectacular region of B.C.

The LMSC members travelled in air-conditioned comfort - in a coach that came fully equipped  - via Hwy. 3 to Penticton.  This route was especially chosen for the natural beauty of the landscape and the fascinating points of interest, among them: Manning Park, small mining towns like Hedley, shimmering lakes and streams, Keremeos with its market fruit and vegetable stores, and finally Penticton.  Amid such comfort and nature's beauty, this was a very relaxing experience..

The Resort, nestled on Lake Okanagan, overlooks the Main street of the city. The approach to the resort is a welcoming sight of well-manicured gardens with a variety of flowering plants. Another treat is the proximity of the city’s myriad shops, virtually on the doorstep of the hotel.   The hotel caters to one’s taste buds with a delightful selection of restaurants.  The picture below captures the Executive Committee, together with RTO President, Joan Murphy, and Johnson Health Consultant, Lori Macdonald-Blundon at supper, Sept.7th.

One of the thrills of a lifetime: lunch at the Lost Moose Restaurant, a gem sequestered mountain-high on the outskirts of Penticton and overlooking the city. The splendour of the scenic drive up the mountain distracts from concerns about altitude, and as one arrives at the restaurant, the view from above reemphasizes the saying ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’ and more.  As twilight settles on the landscape, the scene from above of the illuminated city below is breathtakingly spectacular.

The Business Meeting, Friday, Sept. 9th.   Lionel introduced Lori:  Lori engaged our members with detailed information in response to their questions and concerns on health issues and the Extended Health services that apply to them.
Joan Murphy’s presence and address to members reminded us that the welfare and the well-being of  RTO members, whether in Ontario or British Columbia, are the primary concern of the Executive.

The return trip home:  a feeling that the experience was too short-lived.  It was singularly evident that members would have relished at least one more day in this jewel of a city.  Penticton is a hive of activity and summer events for all tastes; among them this year: the 15th annual 3-Day Jazz Festival, the Iron Man Endurance Pentathlon, The Dragon Boat Race,  The Main Street Market Extravaganza, and of course, District 42’s AGM.
